Our Level - 2 Intermediate English course for Newcomers & Immigrants builds upon essential language foundations and provides cultural insights to empower individuals in their journey toward success and integration into Canadian society. Pathway to Proficiency helps people to improve their knowledge of the English language and begins to prepare individuals to live their best lives in Canada.

What will I learn in Pathway to
Proficiency?

Enhance your communication skills with our Pathway to Proficiency course, crafted to help you navigate real-life situations in Canada with confidence.

You’ll master everyday conversations, handle health-related interactions, and complete essential tasks like filling out forms and banking interactions. Gain the tools to excel in the workplace through job interview preparation and professional communication.

By the end of the program, you’ll be able to participate in social interactions or work-related conversations, read and write more complex materials related to personal, professional and educational needs.

Pathway to Proficiency has four units, covering different topics for everyday interactions and the professional setting:

Build your confidence in everyday conversations with Unit 1, where you’ll learn to talk about family, navigate transportation, follow directions and describe past activities using correct tenses or phrases. You'll learn the difference between common expressions such as, "... Used to", "... Be used to, and "...Get used to", making your interactions clear and effective. By the end of this unit, you’ll confidently handle casual conversations and daily and work-related situations.

Navigate healthcare situations confidently. Students will learn to describe pictures using appropriate vocabulary. You'll learn to understand doctor recommendations, and ask about treatments during medical visits. Master the vocabulary needed to purchase medication at the pharmacy and follow dosage instructions. You'll also practice making emergency calls to 911, clearly describing urgent situations and following instructions using "Should" or imperatives. You’ll practice discussing future plans with phrases like “gonna” and “going to”, while improving your ability to give and learn descriptions. By the end of this unit, you’ll feel prepared to handle health-related interactions with ease and assurance.

Develop essential skills for your life in Canada, where you’ll learn how to fill out rental applications, medical forms, and other important documents with confidence. Practice professional phone etiquette, from answering calls to leaving messages and making questions. You’ll also gain familiarity with banking processes, including opening accounts, handling transactions, and understanding fees. By the end of this unit, you’ll be ready to navigate everyday tasks and interactions efficiently and effectively.

Squrill

Prepare for the workforce in the final unit, where you’ll learn to navigate job interviews and communicate professionally with employers. Build your vocabulary and practice responses for common interview questions, and practice answering effectively to highlight your skills and experiences using the STAR method. You'll also explore key techniques to make a strong impression. Through role-playing and mock interviews, you’ll gain the confidence to approach job opportunities with clarity and professionalism.
